Born, raised and hailing from the beautiful North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, Makuakai Rothman stands out as one of the top elite waterman of his generation. Surfing from just the tender age of 2, Makuakai truly lives up to the meaning of his Hawaiian meaning of his name “guardian of the sea”. At just 18 years of age Makua shook the surfing world in 2002 by catching a 66ft wave claiming the title of worlds biggest wave and winning the Billabong XXL world challenge. Rothman is the 2007 O’neill World Cup Champion, and the 2007 World Tow-in champion. In 2015 Makua was crowned the WSL Big Wave WORLD CHAMPION!!!!

Along with being a World Class Surfer, he is also an International Recording Artist touring and sharing his message of Aloha. Makua is currently on the WSL Big Wave Tour competing at the highest level. Not only is Makua a professional surfer/musician he is also actively involved in many charitable organizations such as Mauli Ola, AccesSurf Hawaii, Surfers Healing, and Camp Agape. Surfing and music has given Makua a voice in the community and around the world to be able to spread the Aloha Spirit by giving back and motivating children.
